The High Atlas is the source of the Dadès River, which flows south through the Dadès Gorge before veering west between the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas mountain ranges. After some time, it unites with the Ouarzazate River, which then flows into the Draa River.
It’s easy to get to Dades Gorge from Tinerhir, which is nearby, by taxi. The valley, which is surrounded by rocky desert terrain, is blessed with an abundance of greenery and is known for its striking rock formations. The area is still home to traditional communities living in modest houses; women are often seen doing laundry in the river and hanging it to dry on nearby bushes.
Start early in the morning on your day trip from Ouarzazate to Dades Valley. After checking in at your hotel, meet your driver and guide for a full-day 4X4 adventure to the stunning Dades Canyons, which will take you through the Kasbahs road and the Valley of the Roses.
Proceed to the Skoura oasis, where you can explore Amridil Kasbah, which offers insights into the building of Kasbahs, Berber daily life, and local history.
Proceed to Kalaa Mgouna, which is well-known for its artisanal rose water distilleries and rose plantations. Investigate the cooperative producing perfumes and soaps with rose water. Enjoy the views of the Kasbahs and fortified villages along the route; some are in ruins, others are still inhabited.
After arriving in Dades Valley, have lunch at a neighborhood eatery and then head up to the canyons for a cup of mint tea and beautiful views.
Come back to Ouarzazate in the middle of the afternoon to wrap up your exploration day.
