Make the most of your time in Casablanca by taking a private shore excursion to Rabat, the historic capital of Morocco, while your cruise ship is berthed. Travel to Rabat along the picturesque Atlantic coast to see the city’s main attractions, such as the Royal Palace and Chellah, a deserted fortress from the twelfth century. Go with your guide to the Mohammed V Mausoleum, a spectacular example of Moroccan architecture. Admire the red sandstone Hassan Tower and meander through the Kasbah of the Udayas, located alongside the Bou Regreg River and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will meet your guide and driver at the Casablanca pier to start your shore excursion in Rabat. Take it easy on the 45-minute drive to Rabat, Morocco's capital city, which means "the monastic stronghold" in Arabic.
When you arrive in Rabat, begin your tour by going to the Royal Palace's esplanade, which is the official home of Mohammed VI, the current King of Morocco. Proceed to the fortress of Chellah, which was once a part of Rabat but was abandoned in the 12th century for unknown reasons.
Savor lunch at a traditional Moroccan eatery located in the city's historic district. Explore the Mohamed V Mausoleum, regarded as a Moroccan architectural masterpiece, after lunch. Mohammed V, the liberator of Morocco, and the late King Hassan II, who built the mausoleum in 1971 in memory of his father, are buried there.
Beside the mausoleum is Hassan Tower, one of the most notable elements of the Mosque's 12th-century ruins and a landmark in Rabat. The trip to the Oudaya Kasbah's 17th-century Andalusian Gardens, renowned for its wide variety of plants and flowers, is the last stop on the Rabat shore excursion.
This shore excursion in Rabat comes to an end when you return to the port of Casablanca, depending on when you embarked.
