Set off on a three-day Sahara journey from Marrakech to Fes and explore famous sites including Kasbah Ait Ben Hadou and the stunning Dades Valley. Explore the fascinating Erg Chebbi sand dunes, meet with Barbary Apes in the Middle Atlas Mountains, and finish your adventure in the vibrant town of Fes. Explore Morocco’s natural beauty and rich cultural tapestry with great anticipation.
Your Marrakech to Fes Morocco Desert Trip departs at 7:30 AM from your hotel or riad and travels through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi Ntichka pass to Kasbah AiT Ben Hadou. There will be multiple stops along the way where you can take in the scenery. Discover Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been featured in several Hollywood blockbusters. We continue our journey to Ouarzazate, where we stop at Kasbah Taourirte before lunch to enjoy a leisurely meal.
The drive to Boumalne Dades continues in the afternoon, taking you through the beautiful Valley of the Roses and ending at your hotel in Dades Valley. After dinner, relax and get ready for the night.
After breakfast, we start our journey today by traveling to Tinghir oasis via the Road of 1001 Kasbahs. Beautiful vistas of the remaining fortified villages that were my homeland to caravan paths until the early 20th century can be seen along the route. When we get to Tinghir, an old military outpost from the French occupation, we turn off onto a side road which takes us to the oasis. You are welcome to stroll along the streamside and keep an eye the locals working on their farms and herding cattle. One of the tour's highlights, Todgha Gorges, is where your stroll comes to an end.
We eat lunch at a neighborhood café before heading to Rissani, which is considered to be one of the holiest towns in Morocco. It is significant because it is the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty, which is currently in power; its founder is buried nearby. Rissani is also well-known for being the origin of historic caravan routes that led from there to Timbuktu across the Sahara desert. We head toward Merzouga, where our camel caravan is waiting, after traversing rocky terrain. Take a camel ride over the dunes of Erg Chebbi to see a beautiful sunset, then head back to our Sahara desert camp, which is located in the middle of nowhere. Savor dinner outside under the stars while listening to the rhythms of the local nomads' drumming all night.
In Merzouga, have breakfast at the camp operator's lodge following an hour-long dawn camel trek. After that, give yourself some time to get ready before saying goodbye to the Desert camp hosts. After settling into the van, take a lengthy drive to Fes via Errachidia, the Tafilalt region's capital, which passes through the Ziz Valley. Proceed to Midelt, where you will have a leisurely lunch before crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains to see the Berber towns of Imouzzar and Ifran along with Cedar Forests. It is anticipated to arrive in Fes late in the afternoon. The Marrakech to Fes desert tour concludes with a drop-off at your selected Fes riad or hotel.
